César Canova pays a tribute to his Ph.D. thesis advisor, Geovany Silva,
with the submission of his work in Lisbon

César Canova homenageia seu orientador de doutorado, Geovany Silva, com a entrega de sua tese em Lisboa. No âmbito do doutoramento em Arquitetura da FA-ULisboa, Portugal, César Canova - Diretor estadual no Rio Grande do Sul e Coordenador de Pesquisas e-DAU - submeteu sua tese, com o título: "A Habitação Social no Horizonte da Sustentabilidade: um metaprojeto a partir de espaços coletivos do habitar em Porto Alegre e Lisboa na segunda metade do século". O desenvolvimento da tese foi orientado pelo professor Hugo Farias (FA-ULisboa) e pelo professor Geovany Silva (PPGAU-UFPB), falecido no dia 9 de março de 2021.
Geovany era Diretor Estadual e-DAU na Paraíba e Coordenador de Relações Educacionais, e foi a convite dele que César Canova integrou a rede. O trabalho desenvolvido por Canova foi e é continuamente enriquecido pelas contribuições de Geovany, especialmente no que tange a análise da morfologia urbana, a utilização de indicadores de sustentabilidade urbana e os métodos de pesquisa em Arquitetura.
O luto pelo falecimento do professor tem sido, aos poucos, transformado em um amplo sentimento de gratidão por toda a trajetória profissional e pelas memórias pessoais que Geovany cultivou junto aos membros da e-DAU. É nesse sentido que se partilha, a seguir, a mensagem deixada por César Canova em sua página de Facebook:
"Foi com imensa gratidão que enviei minha tese de Doutorado para a Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade de Lisboa. Com gratidão e também como homenagem ao professor que por mais tempo esteve na equipe de orientação, que fez com que minha pesquisa tomasse um rumo maravilhoso.
Muito obrigado, Geovany Silva.
Sua mensagem há menos de um mês e as trocas de e-mail com o professor Hugo Farias, a quem sou também imensamente grato, deixaram-me seguro de que fizemos um bom trabalho. Há muitas mais pessoas a quem agradeço em minha tese, mas farei as devidas homenagens quando chegar a data da defesa. Por ora, deixo registrado esse momento, para que consigamos transformar nosso luto em gratidão. Como prometido, professor, celebrarei esse momento. Tenho a certeza de que você também celebra comigo, de onde estiver";
Within the context of his Ph.D. program in Architecture at the FA-ULisbon, Portugal,
César Canova - State Director , Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil and Research Coordinator
at e-DAU, - submitted his thesis, with the title: "Social Housing on the Horizon of Sustainability:
a metaproject based on the collective spaces of dwelling in Porto Alegre and Lisbon
in the second half of the century". The development of the thesis was advised by professor
Hugo Farias (FA-ULisbon) and professor Geovany Silva (PPGAU-UFPB),
who passed away on March 9.
Geovany was the State Director of e-DAU in Paraíba, Brazil, and the coordinator
of Educational Relations, and it was due to his indication that César Canova was
admitted to the network. The thesis developed by Canova was and is continuously
enriched by Geovany's contributions, especially with regards to the analysis of urban morphology, the use of sustainability indicators and methods of research in Architecture.
The mourning for the passing away of the professor has been, gradually, transformed into
a wide feeling of gratitude for all the professional itinerary and for the personal
memories which Geovany shared with the e-DAU members. It is in this sense that we share,
from now onwards, the message left by César Canova in his Facebook page:
"It was with immense gratitude that I sent my Ph.D. thesis to the School of
Architecture of the University of Lisbon.. with gratitude, in addition to this, as a tribute
to the professor who for the most part of time was in the advisory committee, who made it
possible that my research took a marvelous turn.
Thank you, Geovany Silva.
Your message of less than a month ago and the emails exchanged with Professor Hugo Farias, to whom I am immensely grateful as well, left me with the certainty that we did a good job.
There are many other persons I wish to thank, but I shall pay the due tribute to them
when the date of the defense of the thesis will arrive. At this moment, I would like to mark
this moment, so that we can transform grief into gratitude.. as promised to you, professor,
I will celebrate this moment. i am also certain you are celebrating it with me,
wherever you may be."
